Free green waste disposal for residents

Increased fire risk expected this spring and summer in south-west Victoria and Corangamite Shire. Recent rain has also boosted grass growth, raising the risk of grassfires.

To help residents prepare for the fire season, Council is offering free domestic green waste disposal from Saturday 4 October to Sunday 26 October at Naroghid Landfill and all Shire transfer stations.

You can dispose of leaves, branches, long grass and other organic materials.

This is available to Corangamite residential households only – no commercial loads.

Extra FOGO bin collections will also run from 5 October until the end of the year, with weekly pick-ups instead of fortnightly.

This initiative helps reduce potential fire fuel around homes and supports a safer community.

Now is the time to reduce fuel loads around your property. Clear gutters, remove dry vegetation, and cut back overhanging branches. One overgrown block can put a whole neighbourhood at risk.
