Personal Care and body art industries must comply with the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009. To assist in compliance, health guidelines for personal care and body art industries Health Guidelines for Personal Care and Body Art Industries have been developed. The guidelines provide information on cleaning and sanitisation practices required for the personal care industry. These guidelines should be used as a guide to best practice and as a reference tool for people associated with the industry.
Beauty Therapists, Hairdressers, Colonic Irrigation and Body Art establishments within Corangamite Shire are all required to be registered with the Council.
Physical therapy establishments are not required to be registered with Council. Radiation equipment (solariums) are required to be registered with Department of Health.

Body Art includes tattooing, cosmetic tattooing, body piercing, branding, scarification, braiding, three-dimensional art such as beading or devil’s horns and any other process that decorates or adorns the body by means of implantation, or the permanent marking of skin by means of injection, incision or heat.
These procedures involve a high risk of transmission of blood-borne viruses and bacterial infections that can be transmitted by unclean and non-sterile equipment and unhygienic procedures and premises. Every client and worker is at risk if proper infection procedures are not performed. Clients' skin should be clean and free of infection and all instruments used in skin penetration practices must be sterile at the time of use.
Body Art establishments are required to be registered with Corangamite Shire.

Colonic Irrigation is the practice that involves cleansing the entire colon using filtered and temperature-regulated warm water which enters and exits the colon through tubes connected to rectal catheter.
If equipment is not sterile and infection control procedures are not followed, then the potential for transmission of bowel infections and blood-borne viruses is high.
As of 1st January 2010, Colonic irrigation establishments will be required to be registered with Council.

Hairdressing procedures can lead to infection if appropriate care is not taken by the operator. The operator must ensure that they do not puncture the skin with any item such as scissors, razors, combs, clippers and/or hairpins. Operators should also ensure that all of these items are cleansed in accordance with guidelines prescribed by the Department of Health. Operators should also ask their client if they have any skin lesions that they should be aware of so appropriate care can be taken.
