What happened at the May 2026 Council Meeting

At its May meeting, Council:

  • Updated the Instrument of Appointment and Authorisation (Planning and Environment Act 1987 only) dated 25 November 2025 be revoked.
  • Released the Draft 2026-2027 Budget and Draft 2026-2027 Fees and Charges for public feedback
  • Revoke the Domain User Account Password Policy and Endpoint Security Policy to allow more timely updates as organisational policies;
  • Adopted new
    • Use of Council Land Policy;
    • Use of Private Land Policy;
    • Animals Policy;
    • Fuel Reduction Slashing on Roadsides Policy;
    • Roadside Firewood Collection Policy;
    • Enforcement- Infringements and Prosecutions Policy;
    • Kerbside Landfill, Recyclables, Glass and Food Organics and Garden Organics Policy;
    • Open Air Burning Policy;
    • Nature Strip Planting Policy;
    • Support for Events and Festivals (Traffic Management and Local Law Fee Exemptions) Policy;
    • Livestock Policy;
    • the Curdies River Flood Study and seek the Planning Minister’s consent to prepare planning scheme amendment C70cora to the Corangamite Planning Scheme to implement the study’s findings;
    • Recreation Reserves Management Policy;
    • Essential Safety Measures Policy;
    • Fair Access Policy and endorsed the Fair Access Action Plan;
    • Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf Management and Risk Management Plans, appointed Frances Grundy and Caroline Duynhoven as Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf Management Committee community representatives for three years and received the committee’s annual update for 2025-2026;
  • approved the Business Assistance Scheme application Foodworks Lismore ($1,775 ex GST) for new business identification signage;
  • authorised decommissioning of the former municipal Camperdown saleyards; and
  • approved partial discontinuation of road reserves in Lord and Adams Streets abutting the Cobden Recreation Reserve and authorised transfer of the land to the Crown for incorporation into the Cobden Recreation Reserve.

In other business:

  • CEO David Rae informed Councillors the Victorian Truck Wash Steering Committee has submitted a report to the Minister and is waiting for the minister to make the recommendations public.
    • Cr Beard shared the Cobden Aerodrome Committee’s concerns that its submission about the Mumblin Wind Farm potentially closing down the aerodrome have been completely overlooked buy the State Government;
    • Cr Gstrein congratulated Bookaar's Penny Smith on her world record at the trap shooting World Cup in Kazakhstan; 
    • Director Works and Services Shaun Broadbent updated Crs on Council working with residents who had asked questions about a proposed footpath outside their property in Cobden; and
    • Council received a petition from residents opposing a planning application for a major promotion sign at the entrance to Lismore.
