The Plan for Skipton community plan was developed through the first half of 2013 and finalised on 29 July 2013. Forty-eight (48) people participated across the town survey, Soapbox and public meetings. The planning process outlined 117 ideas for Skipton across eight broad themes. A list of 20 projects were prioritised, with five selected for early implementation.

The Plan for Skipton documents what is valued most by people who live in Skipton, to be protected and maintained. The Plan was reviewed in the second half of 2017. The top priorities for Skipton are:

  1. Re-open the Skipton Pub (in progress)
  2. Re-open closed shops (in progress)
  3. Provide an overnight camping/caravan area
  4. Construct Town Entrance Signage (completed)
  5. Plant more trees/ improve landscape (completed in part)
  6. Rail Trail development/circuit (completed)
  7. Attract more business and industry (ongoing)
