Skipton has a bold new splash of colour thanks to a stunning mural by award-winning artist Jimmy Dvate, now brightening the Skipton Memorial Swimming Pool.

The newly formed Skipton Arts Trail Group is working to put Skipton “on the map” as a tourism destination. This passionate team aims to celebrate creativity, strengthen community identity, and enhance public spaces.

The Group’s first major project, a vibrant mural on the wall of the town’s swimming pool, depicts native plants and animals that reflect the natural beauty and biodiversity of the region. Featuring species such as the platypus, sugar glider, galah and local flora, the artwork has quickly become a landmark admired by residents and visitors alike.

Before engaging the artist, the Group undertook community consultation to ensure the design reflected local values and aspirations. Feedback since completion has been overwhelmingly positive, with locals expressing pride and excitement for future projects.

To bring the mural to life, the Group secured $500 through a Ready Now Grant from Council for concept development, and $20,000 via a Berrybank Wind Farm Grant for delivery. These funds transformed a blank wall into a vibrant celebration of Skipton’s identity and potential.

Mural artist Jimmy Dvate is renowned for his large-scale murals of Australian flora and fauna. His work combines artistic skill with a deep commitment to conservation, often created in partnership with environmental groups. This mural continues that tradition, capturing the personality of each subject with accuracy and colour.
