Jimmi Buscombe
‘Brolgas’, 2020
Materials – Mural
Location – 140 High Street, Lismore

This project was open to all artists within Australia, through an ‘Expression of Interest’ process. A specially convened Community Reference Group assessed the submissions and short-listed three artists to pitch a concept.

Local Artist Jimmi Buscombe was the successful artist and has produced a spectacular silo art image of brolgas and pastures.

The Lismore community identified themes that could be the basis for public art in the town. The list included:

  • History
  • Sheep, Shearing & Woolsheds
  • Something new and unique to Lismore
  • Native animals and birds (Inc. Brolgas)
  • Volcanic Plains
  • Bluestone buildings
  • Native vegetation

Other aspects to consider:

  • That the artwork is a prominent feature of the town
  • 1850s onwards

The outcome is timeless, contemporary, and permanent and provide an appropriate legacy for the community.
