Lismore Water Tower Public Art
Jimmi Buscombe
‘Brolgas’, 2020
Materials – Mural
Location – 140 High Street, Lismore
This project was open to all artists within Australia, through an ‘Expression of Interest’ process. A specially convened Community Reference Group assessed the submissions and short-listed three artists to pitch a concept.
Local Artist Jimmi Buscombe was the successful artist and has produced a spectacular silo art image of brolgas and pastures.
The Lismore community identified themes that could be the basis for public art in the town. The list included:
- History
- Sheep, Shearing & Woolsheds
- Something new and unique to Lismore
- Native animals and birds (Inc. Brolgas)
- Volcanic Plains
- Bluestone buildings
- Native vegetation
Other aspects to consider:
- That the artwork is a prominent feature of the town
- 1850s onwards
The outcome is timeless, contemporary, and permanent and provide an appropriate legacy for the community.
