About the position

Corangamite Shire Council is seeking an Environmental Health Officer to provide an efficient and effective municipal environmental health service to the community.

The role supports the delivery of Council's environmental health services through customer service, community education, statutory compliance activities, and the development of policies, management plans and strategies. The position will also contribute to service improvements and, as required, participate in and support Council's emergency management functions.

 

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health Science or equivalent qualifications acceptable for membership of Environmental Health Australia and/or several years’ experience as an Environmental Health Officer in local or state government or the ability and motivation to take on a course of study in this area.
  • Sound current knowledge of, and the ability to interpret and explain, environmental health legislation, regulations, and codes of practice (including Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, Food Act 1984, Tobacco Act 2000, Environment Protection Act 2017) or the ability and motivation to take on a course of study in this area.
  • Experience in the inspection, assessment, approval, and compliance of onsite wastewater management system in accordance with the Environment Protection Act 2017 highly desirable. 
  • Experience in the inspection, assessment, approval and compliance of food and registered premises in accordance with Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, Food Act 1984 and Tobacco Act 2000 is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of town planning and regulatory processes as they relate to Environmental Health is highly desirable.
  • Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets (essential), and other environmental health software (desirable).
  • Victorian Drivers Licence and recent National Police Check, or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
