Corangamite Shire Council’s annual roadside vegetation spraying and slashing are underway.

Manager Works Lyall Bond said the works would be finished by the end of October, weather permitting.

“Two-metre-wide sections of the shoulders have been sprayed on 62 km of sealed roads.

“Another 195 km of major roads that we can’t slash due to steep verges have been sprayed to 4 m.

“Overall, about 310 km more road will be treated than last year.”

Council has awarded the contract for spraying of 1307 km of unsealed roads which is expected to be done by the end of this month.

Unsealed road intersections and stone wall sites will also be treated.

Spraying around roadside furniture – signs, guide posts etc, – is anticipated to start by end of October.

The first round of slashing has started in the north of Shire and is moving southward.

“Over the next three weeks or so, depending on the weather, 418 km of sealed roads and intersections will be slashed out to 4 m,” Mr Bond said.

“The second round of roadside slashing is scheduled to start in December.

“The goal is to cover all Council-managed sealed and unsealed roads that are accessible for a 4 m-wide cut.

“An additional 65 km of roads will be slashed this year compared to last year.

“The 2026 Community Satisfaction Survey Roadside found our slashing and weed control fell two points from 2025, to 46 out of 100.

“Council has taken that on board and wants to assure the community the job is getting done.”
