New care space opens for Timboon’s babies

Some of Corangamite’s youngest residents can enjoy early childhood care in an age-appropriate setting after a dedicated baby's room opened at the Timboon Children's Centre.

The Corangamite Shire Council-owned building is leased by private operator Ready Set Go Early Learning.

The new room is in a converted storeroom that now opens onto a secure outdoor decking area where babies can safely explore the yard.

The upgrade included installation of split system heating and cooling, and plumbing for a safe and hygienic nappy change area.

The staff room was upgraded with a new kitchenette.

Corangamite Shire Mayor Kate Makin and Ready Set Go Chief Executive Officer Zeke Pottage cut the ribbon to officially open the new room in front of X children and family members.

Mr Pottage said the room would meet growing demand from local families for more places and better tailored care for the youngest children in the community.

“Ready Set Go identified a clear need among Timboon families for additional capacity for babies, creating a safer space dedicated for the younger children,” Mr Pottage said.

“Separating babies from walking children was identified as being in the best interest of all children at the centre, allowing each age group to be cared for in an environment suited to their stage of development, and reducing the risk of incidents between mobile and non-mobile children.

“Corangamite Shire has supported Ready Set Go throughout the project and Ready Set Go would like to thank the Council for its ongoing support in helping bring the new room to the community.

“We believe that world class care should exist everywhere in Australia, no matter what postcode you have.”

Mayor Kate Makin said the new facility was a great asset for families in and around Timboon.

“This is a welcome step in addressing some of the childcare gaps in the Shire,” Cr Makin said.

“Childcare is great for children's socialization and emotional development as they get out and explore the world in a safe environment.

“It also allows parents, usually the mothers, to get back to work knowing their child is in safe hands.

“Council has contributed $11,000 to the project which is a great example of local government and private enterprise working together for community benefit.”
