There was a full house for the Johnny Cash and June Carter tribute show at Cobden Civic Hall on Wednesday 14 October.

Husband and wife duo Mark and Joanne Caligiuri had the audience singing along and literally dancing in the aisles at the Victorian Seniors Festival concert.

The high-energy tribute to one of music's most loved couples included hits such as Folsom Prison Blues, Ring Of Fire, I Walk The Line, Ghost Riders in the Sky and classic duets Jackson and Long-Legged Guitar Pickin' Man.

Deputy Mayor Laurie Hickey welcomed the crowd and introduced the artists.

"Events like this are not just about the great entertainment," he said.

"It's also about making friends and reconnecting with people we haven't seen for a while and enjoying everything about Corangamite that makes it such a great place to live."

Cr Hickey said the Victorian Seniors Festival theme, Connect, Create, Celebrate, invited older Victorians to come together, discover new interests, and celebrate.

"I'd like to acknowledge Seniors Victoria for its ongoing support. Its contribution makes concerts like this possible.

"Bringing entertainment is very valuable to supporting communities and Corangamite Shire is very grateful to have made that connection, and is looking forward to helping Victorians 'connect, create and celebrate'."

Coordinator Positive Ageing Access and Inclusion Belinda Rowbottom said guests started arriving an hour before the 11 am performance, with the venue soon buzzing with excitement.

“There was singing, dancing, plenty of smiles and lots of familiar tunes as the audience enjoyed a memorable morning of entertainment.

“A light lunch followed the performance, giving guests time to catch up with old friends, meet new people and enjoy each other’s company.

“The response was extremely positive, with guests saying how much they enjoyed the show and the chance to get out, connect with others and be part of the celebration.

“It was a terrific day of music, memories, and community connection.”
