Councillors will hit the streets to listen to community

Corangamite Shire community members who want to raise any matters with Council can run them by Councillors and senior staff when they visit each town in the Shire during October.

‘Listening Posts’ will pop up in main streets so people going about their daily business can meet their representatives face-to-face.

Mayor Kate Makin invited residents to come and discuss any matter including goals, needs and concerns

“Your elected Councillors and the Council organisation work for you,” Cr Makin said.

“Listening Posts are about taking Council conversations into the community, making it easier for people to stop, have a chat and raise the issues that matter to them.

“Tell us your thoughts about what’s happening in your local community and how Council might be able to help make the most of opportunities or overcome challenges.

“If you have a matter that falls outside Council’s legal area of responsibility, we may be able to direct you to the appropriate government department or organisation.

“If you want to speak to your Ward Councillor, you can find their contact details at corangamite.vic.gov.au/Councillors or call the Civic Centre on 5593 7100 and get transferred to them or leave a message.”

Chief Executive Officer David Rae said the Listening Posts are an additional way residents can bring their input to Council.

“Council recognises people have different ways they like to communicate. While one person might be comfortable talking face-to-face, another might prefer to take their time and put it in writing.

“Council aims to provide a variety of channels that are accessible and welcoming for residents to have their say.

“For organisational matters, residents can send a message through Council’s Facebook and Instagram pages, call Customer Service on 5593 7100 or email shire@corangamite.vic.gov.au.

“There is also ConversationsCorangamite.vic.gov.au where you can leave your ideas in the Ideas Garden, have respectful discussions with other community members on Conversation Patch page, and pin ideas for specific places on the interactive map.

“Residents can also report a maintenance issue, mark the location on a map and upload photos at corangamite.vic.gov.au/Customer-Request.
