Travel, electrical appliances, beauty treatments, agricultural products, retail items, accommodation and café dining are all on the shopping list following the launch of the Corangamite Gift Card in Cobden on Friday.
The cards are now available to purchase at the Corangamite Shire Civic Centre in Camperdown, the Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre, and from whyleavetown.com/community/corangamite.
Mayor Kate Makin welcomed attendees to the launch breakfast at the Cobden Visitor Information Centre to celebrate "a new way of backing local businesses, supporting local jobs and keeping investment in Corangamite".
"It's a gift card that can only be used at participating businesses in our Shire. More than 60 businesses have already signed up, and that number continues to grow."
"The gift card is a perfect gift for someone who has everything, allowing them to support a business of their choice.
"Every dollar spent locally circulates through our community. When you buy from a local business, they employ local people, and they buy goods and services from other businesses as well.
"And that means the benefit of your spending continues well beyond the original purchase."
With Christmas drawing closer, Cr Makin encouraged residents across the Shire to consider buying the Corangamite Gift Card for friends, family and staff.
“It is a way to give a great gift while supporting local businesses.”
