Skipton will sparkle with festive cheer this July as Corangamite Shire Council hosts a heartwarming intergenerational celebration in honour of International Friendship Day.

The event will take place on Wednesday 30 July, from 11:00 am to 1:15 pm at the Skipton Golf and Bowls Club, bringing together senior residents and Year 5 and 6 students from Skipton Primary School for a joyful day of connection and celebration.

Coordinator Community Engagement and Development Bec Reedman said the event is all about building bridges between generations.

“We’re thrilled to be organising this special day that brings together our older residents and local students,” Ms Reedman said.

“It will be a day filled with festive fun, storytelling, and meaningful connection.”

The celebration will feature a traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, followed by desserts and Christmas carol singing. Attendees will also enjoy:

  • Story-sharing circles, where seniors and students exchange their favourite Christmas memories
  • A Christmas trivia game, encouraging teamwork and laughter across generations
  • A lucky door prize draw to add a little extra sparkle to the day

Coordinator Positive Ageing & Inclusion Belinda Rowbottom encouraged senior residents of Skipton to get involved.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for young and old to come together, share stories, and celebrate the joy of friendship and community in Skipton,” Mrs Rowbottom said.

“RSVPs are easy, just call our Positive Ageing and Inclusion team on 5593 7100 to register your attendance.”

This event is coordinated by the Corangamite Shire Council’s Youth Team and the Positive Ageing and Inclusion Team, as part of their ongoing commitment to fostering inclusion, connection, and community spirit.
