Thirteen businesses in Port Cambell’s main street will share more than $67,000 in Council funding leveraging the town centre revitalization.

At its March meeting, Corangamite Shire Council acknowledged the impacts businesses had faced during the construction phase of the town centre revitalization project.

At its July meeting, Council confirmed an allocation of $67,364.55 across the 14 applications.

Mayor Kate Makin said the funding would enable these businesses to capitalise on the town centre revitalisation project.

“A big motivation behind the town centre project was to support local businesses and jobs, and enhance tourism opportunities.

“It was disappointing that a series of unexpected issues made trading difficult for longer than expected.

“At our March meeting, Council approved a variation to the Business Assistance Scheme to support those businesses.

“The special variation for Port Campbell removed the requirement for dollar-for-dollar contributions and increased the limit to $5000 for businesses with main street frontages.

“The various projects will make the individual businesses − and the main street as a whole − more inviting, accessible, safer and more attractive.

“With only some fine-tuning left on the streetscape, and the upcoming improvements to the 14 premises, the town will be all set for the next peak visitor season”

The BAS scheme is an ongoing grant and business support scheme that is open for applications year-round. It provides four streams:

  1. Business Facade Improvement
  2. Creative Industries and Placemaking
  3. Community Enterprise
  1. Fees and Enabling Infrastructure
