Community members are invited to nominate inspirational Corangamite Shire residents and groups for the 2027 Australia Day Community Awards.

Nominations for the Corangamite Shire Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year awards are open now and close at 5 pm on Monday 26 October.

The awards will be presented as part of the Shire’s Australia Day Celebrations in Camperdown at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday 26 January 2027, starting at 10 am.

Mayor Kate Makin invited Corangamite Shire residents to nominate people and events who deserved recognition for their contributions to the community.

“There are so many passionate volunteers in our community who give their time and effort for the love of it, not for praise,” Cr Makin said.

“Let’s all put our heads together with family and friends and think about who in our community gives their time and energy to make Corangamite such a great place to live.

“Nominating someone only takes a few minutes which isn’t much compared to the years, decades - and sometimes even a lifetime – our amazing volunteers have put in to benefit others.”

Cr Makin said more than half of Australians mark the occasion in some way, with many spending time with family and friends or attending local community events held across the country.

“Australia Day is more than just a day off work and a barbecue.

“It is a chance to come together as a community, celebrate the country's diverse cultures, and reflect on what it means to be Australian.

“So come on to the Theatre Royal on 26 January next year and congratulate the award winners who are helping us build an amazing future together.”
