Corangamite Shire Council late last year appointed consultant Traffix Group to prepare a new parking strategy for Port Campbell.

The strategy will address long‑standing parking pressures in the popular coastal town, particularly during peak tourism periods when demand for parking near Lord Street shops and the foreshore is at its highest.

Following traffic counts and observations over the busy summer period, Traffix is now seeking feedback from Port Campbell residents, business owners and visitors to ensure that the parking strategy provides for the needs and amenity of residents and businesses, while also improving visitor experience.

Residents, business operators and visitors are invited to fill in a survey or leave comments on an online map.

Cooriemungle Ward Councillor Jamie Vogels said the strategy was an important step in supporting a safe, accessible and prosperous future for Port Campbell.

“Port Campbell’s thriving tourism economy is one of the Shire’s great strengths, but it also brings significant pressure on parking and traffic flow,” Cr Vogels said.

“The strategy will explore a range of options to manage existing parking spaces with consideration of peak usage times, appropriate signage, providing for different vehicle sizes and consideration of the needs of user groups.”

“We want to ensure residents, traders and visitors can all access the township safely and conveniently, and we need the community’s input on the opportunities and issues that emerged from the first full year of the current parking arrangements.”

The strategy will look at time‑restricted and unrestricted parking, oversized vehicles such as buses and caravans, loading zones for business deliveries, emergency vehicle access, accessible parking requirements, and park‑and‑walk options.

Cr Vogels said community feedback will play a crucial role in developing practical, long‑term solutions.

“Locals and business operators know better than anyone where the challenges are.

“Your insights will directly influence the final strategy and help us create a parking system that supports Port Campbell’s liveability and economic success.”

A draft strategy will be released for community comment in April, with the final strategy to be presented to Council mid‑year.

Community members can fill in the survey at conversations.corangamite.vic.gov.au/pcps or pick up a hard copy from the Visitor Information Centre, police station, supermarket, or service station an drop it into the VIC.

Submissions close 5 pm on Tuesday 31 March.
