Longer deadline for feedback on Council plans
Published on 21 May 2026
Public feedback is now open for Corangamite Shire’s Draft Council Plan 2025-2029 and other key strategic documents.
Mayor Kate Makin encouraged residents to have their say by 5 pm, Sunday 8 June − a week later than first announced.
“This is your chance to comment on the drafts before they are finetuned and adopted at the June Council meeting so Council Staff can hit the ground running when the new financial year starts,” Cr Makin said.
The ‘Council Plan 2025-2029’ will guide Council activities over the next four years.
“It commits to advocacy to support mental health services, healthcare access, ageing in place and enhancing recreational facilities” Cr Makin said.
“There is a focus on providing housing for the future, youth engagement, and promoting cultural diversity, alongside a commitment to financial responsibility and sustainability.
“The draft plan also puts an emphasis on protection and enhancement of our environment.”
Developed by a Citizens Jury in 2021, the ‘Community Vision 2040’ outlines our residents’ long-term aspirations and goals.
“Community engagement in 2024 and 2025 found it’s largely on track but some objectives have been strengthened based on resident’s feedback, from child care and aged care to housing, public transport, arts and culture, protecting agricultural land and more.”
The ‘Financial Plan 2025-2035’ aims to ensure sustainable service delivery and responsible management of assets.
“The Financial Plan puts a large emphasis on asset renewal, projecting more than $200 million for capital works across the coming decade,” Cr Makin said.
“It is forecast that Council will draw down on existing cash reserves to fund the asset renewal and service provision.”
Rates are Council’s main significant revenue source for Council and make up roughly 48% of its annual income, alongside government grants, fees and fines, interest from investments, and sale of assets.
“The ‘Revenue and Rating Plan 2025-2029’ sets out the most appropriate and affordable approach to finance the objectives in the council plan,” Cr Makin said.
“The ‘Asset Plan 2025-2035’ is a cost-effective guide to how we will manage our $700 M in roads, public buildings, 132km of footpaths, kerb and channel and more.
“Separately, the ‘Road Management Plan 2025-2029’ sets standards for inspection, maintenance, renewal and upgrades of roads and paths”
