Council seeks feedback on major plans
Published on 14 May 2025
Corangamite Shire’s Draft Council Plan 2025-2029 and several targeted strategies will be available for public feedback from Monday 19 May.
Mayor Kate Makin said the four-year Council plan establishes Council’s objectives for the next four years and will have a major role in guiding Council’s Budgets and other activities.
“Council has undertaken engagement to refresh the Community Vision and prepare a new Council Plan, as well as developing other supporting plans and strategies,” Cr Makin said.
“There was a fantastic response from the community. Over 90 residents came to two Community Conversation sessions in March and another 130 filled in an online survey.
“Councillors and staff also met with focus groups that included young people, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse residents, parents, and people from the health, community and business sectors. Feedback from the Community Kitchen Tables sessions last year has also been included.
“The community have told us they’re eager to see on issues such as aged care, childcare, housing, population retention, youth, healthcare and mental health, as well as protecting agricultural land. The Community Vision has been updated to reflect these sentiments, while the Council Plan also includes targeted strategies in these areas.”
The Council Plan 2025-2029 is Council’s key strategic document that guides priorities, programs, actions and advocacy over the next four years. It outlines the vision of a connected, thriving and sustainable community. Five strategic objectives will guide Council’s work programs and services including:
- A Community that enables healthy, active, and resilient living
- A growing and prosperous economy
- Quality infrastructure and community connections
- Protection and enhancement of our Environment
- Strong Civic Leadership
“The Community Vision 2040 guides Council’s decision making, Cr Makin said.
“This is the community’s vision and it guides the development of the Council Plan and all the other plans that branch out from it.
“Each level becomes more and more focussed - from the big picture down to specific Budget allocations, policies and procedures.
“It keeps Council accountable and makes sure we deliver on things we say we’ll do.”
The following plans are open for feedback:
- Council Plan 2025 – 2029
- updated Community Vision 2040
- Financial Plan 2025-2035
- Revenue and Rating Plan 2025-2029
- Asset Plan 2025-2035
- Road Management Plan 2025-2029
Cr Makin encouraged the community to read the plans and have their say.
“We’ve done the consultation, reviewed the material received and now we want to make sure we have heard you properly.
“Have we missed anything? Is there anything you feel strongly about?
“You will be able to find all the draft documents at corangamite.vic.gov.au/Conversation2025 or get a hard copy at the Civic Centre in Camperdown.”
