What happened at the July 2025 Council Meeting

At its 22 July meeting, Council

  • received the results of the Audit and Risk Committee annual assessment for 2025;
  • adopted the Audit and Risk Committee Charter dated July 2025;
  • received
    • the report on the attendance of Mayor Kate Makin and Deputy Mayor Laurie Hickey to the National General Assembly 2025; and
    • the Victorian Electoral Commission’s report on the 2024 Corangamite Shire Council general election;
  • allocated
    • $43,837 in Community Grants;
    • $9,500 in Enabling Grants;
    • $49,976.60 in Facility Grants;
    • $19,554.80 in Environment Support Grants:
    • $58,000 in Events and Festivals Grants;
    • $44,994 in Berrybank Project Grants; and
    • $55,000 in Berrybank Leverage Grants;
  • approved the Business Assistance Scheme application from Heytesbury District Landcare Network for $2,000 (ex. GST);
  • noted
    • Business Assistance Scheme grants to 13 Port Campbell businesses that leverage the Port Campbell Town Centre Revitalisation project; and
    • the report detailing the Ready Now Grants (July 2024 to June 2025), and that the review of the Ready Now Grants policy will form part of the overall review of the Grants Policy;
  • Awarded to panels of tenderers
    • Contract 2026005 – Provision of Road Maintenance Products and Services; and
    • Contract 2022006 - Provision of Roadside Vegetation Management including Tree Services, Roadside Slashing and Spraying;

In other business

  • Deputy Mayor Laurie Hickey gave a report on the event welcoming 32 Need for Feed trucks to Camperdown Saturday 12 July;
  • Mayor Kate Makin thanked departing Director Corporate and Community Support David Harrington for his three years’ service; and
  • Council received petitions:
    • from Noorat residents objecting to the proposed location of a telecommunications tower at 12 Glenormiston Road, Noorat; and
    • from Simpson residents asking Council to reconsider its stance on not subdividing houses from land sold to forestry companies.
