Village Life and Space for Living
Our towns have evolved with the needs of our communities, working with the natural beauty of the environment to provide opportunities for recreation and reflection.
With volcanic lakes and mounts, forest gullies, bike trails and a spectacular coastline to explore you might need to get started on that guest room straight away.
Coffee and café culture
Would you like a pastry with that? With no traffic lights (not one, nada, diddly) and no metered parking in Corangamite Shire you can linger longer and have more spare change in your pocket for a tasty treat. Not in a rush, why not ride your bike or walk and take in some fresh country air?
We work to live and live to play, and when that’s all done we like to help out.
Our communities are bonded by a volunteer culture that keeps us safe and supports a host of sporting, recreational and cultural opportunities.
From Parkrun, beach clean-up, Landcare, community art, CFA, SES, CERT and a Surf Lifesaving if you are willing to lend a hand we have a place we can put it to good use.
If shopping, coffee and catching up with friends is more your style, you’ll find a range of boutique shopping along every heritage town streetscape to satisfy your needs. There’s a pub on a corner is most of our towns and the café culture is open for your business.
Events
Events in the country have their own spirit and charm. Corangamite Shire holds and supports a wide range of community, youth, cultural and sporting events every year. Check out our events calendar here.
We are less renowned and more quietly proud of the pop-up style arts and cultural events that bring people together to celebrate who we are, where we live and demonstrate how a sense of place inspires artistic expression.
Be sure to check out the “Phoenix project” events that have brought life, colour, art and togetherness to the Cobden community; the “Beautiful Mess” workshops and exhibitions of Port Campbell Artspace and the burgeoning music and arts scene gathering around the Commercial Hotel in Terang.
There are plenty of non-events too, where likeminded people know where and when to turn up and are happy to share their activities with others. Fancy a Sunday morning open-water swim, bunch ride or a trail run followed by a sandy footed and sometimes sweaty brew at a local café.
We are a maverick bunch and as such some of our events are niche and fly under the radar. Keep your nose to the ground and ask around because participating and volunteering at local events is a great way to help you “find your tribe”, in Corangamite.
So how will you identify as “Corangamite” and not stand out in the crowd?
Smile – we all smile easily and you will too.
