Youthfest! 2019 to celebrate young people’s contributions

Youthfest! 2019 is a new way to shine the spotlight on the young people of Corangamite Shire.

Corangamite Shire Youth Council is calling for nominations for its biggest event of the year.

“It will be a night to celebrate the amazing contributions young people make to Corangamite Shire,” Youth mayor Archi Perriss said.

"Leaving traditions behind, we are aiming to making the night as celebratory and as inclusive as we can. Is about community participation,” he said.

“This year we will feature young people’s contributions to Corangamite Shire through stories and interactive displays.

“We have two new categories: Coranga-mate—for a young person who regularly displays excellent qualities of mateship—and Inspiration—for someone who has overcome an obstacle and deserves to be recognised for their hard work.

“There will be will have comfortable couches and will create a “Night at the Museum” feel with hanging displays showcasing the achievements of our Shire’s incredible young people.

“People will be encouraged to wonder around the civic hall to read the success stories.”

Councillor representative to the Youth Council Wayne Oakes invited everyone in the community to come along and celebrate the amazing young people of Corangamite Shire.

“Come along and congratulate our young people on the incredible contributions they make to the community,” Cr Oakes said.

“Young people’s art and woodwork will be on display throughout the hall, as will business stands for young entrepreneurs who have their own small businesses, to promote/sell their work.

 “There will be a wide range of entertainment throughout the evening, with dance groups, musicians, the theatre company, and comedians, even a fashion walk to showcase the work of local young textile artists.

“Of course, there will also be the premiere of the We Know Your Name But Not Your Story video.”

The event will be held at the Terang Civic Hall on Friday 29 November. Doors open at 6:30 pm for a 7 pm start.
