Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney today announced $204,700 from the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund for oval and netball lighting at Leura Oval in Camperdown.

The funding will go towards four lighting towers at the football oval and four more at the netball courts.

Corangamite Shire Mayor Jo Beard thanked the Minister after the announcement at the Five Star Function Centre.

“The Minister is a great advocate for Corangamite Shire and works hard representing us,” Cr Beard said.

“Sometimes it’s the smaller amounts of funding that can make the biggest difference in smaller towns.  To us, this is a significant amount of money, and it will greatly increase what the club and the facility can do.

“We really appreciate the grants the government makes available because infrastructure like the lights wouldn’t happen otherwise.”

Camperdown Football Netball Club president Kevin Russell thanked the Minister, the government and Corangamite Shire for securing the funding.

“It’s not just for the club but for community users as well,” he said, citing the upcoming Relay For Life as an example.

“The better our facilities are, we’ll be able to attract more young people to the club and community users as well.”

Minister Tierney praised the condition of the Leura Oval and congratulated the club on raising funding to contribute towards the project.

“The Camperdown Football Netball Club is a great club which has been an important part of the Camperdown community since its establishment in 1883,”she said.

“This boost will go a long way to supporting the growing numbers of people in Camperdown keen to get involved in sport and recreation.”

AFL Victoria will contribute $20,000.

Minister Tierney also visited Camperdown Kindergarten where she announced $86,250 from the Children’s Facilities Capital Program for construction of a new front entrance.

“I’m so pleased we’re delivering an upgraded early learning centre here in Camperdown so that more local families can reap the benefits of early learning.

“The research is very clear- early learning sets kids up for the best possible start in life.

“There is nothing more impactful than supporting education and development in these vital years.”
