Mayor Jo Beard said animals play a big part in many people’s lives but were also a responsibility.

“The Draft Domestic Animal Management Plan 2017-2021 is a comprehensive document that explains domestic animal controls and services, provides facts and figures, and lists current priorities.

“It sets out guidelines for community education and staff training to improve responsible pet ownership.

“We want to work with animal owners to make sure we achieve the best outcomes for pets, their owners and the community.

“Registration and identification, micro-chipping and desexing of pets are fundamental elements of responsible pet ownership.

“All dogs and cats over the age of three months must be registered with the Shire under state law.”

The plan can also be viewed in hardcopy at the Corangamite Civic Centre, 181 Manifold St, Camperdown, or at council libraries.
