Funds allocated from Council grants programs

Sixty-two community groups and individuals will share $90,967 from Corangamite Shire Council’s 2018-2019 grants program.
Funding from the Community Grants, Facility Grants and Environment Grants programs was allocated at the July Council meeting.
Mayor Jo Beard said each application had been assessed independently by council officers against the respective grant guidelines to make sure the decisions were fair and ensured a positive investment of ratepayers’ funds.
“Our clubs and management committees and dedicated individuals continually do a great job and these grants programs are a way Council can support their efforts,” Cr Beard said.
“The clubs and organisations that applied for grants all make valuable contributions within our Shire, but we have to make sure the project is realistic and will return value for money to the people of Corangamite.
“Unfortunately, not everyone received what they asked for and we would encourage applicants in future rounds of funding to speak to Council first and get help with their submission to maximise what they can receive.”
The Community Grants Program offers dollar-for-dollar funding of up to $1,000 for workshops or equipment purchases, development of new community, leisure, cultural or recreational programs and planning activities. Thirteen applicants were granted a combined total of $10,944.
The Facility Grants Program offers dollar-for-dollar funding of up to $2,000 to Committees of Management or clubs to assist with repairs, equipment or improvements to their local hall or reserve. Twenty eight groups shared $49,022 in allocations.
The Environment Support Grants Program offers dollar-for-dollar funding (including in-kind labour) for grants of up to $2,000 for environment and sustainability projects within the Shire. Funding was allocated to 21 applicants, adding up to $30,000.
Cr Beard said the $15,033 left from the budgeted $105,000 would be redirected to events and festivals.
“This year we have spun off events and festivals into their own dedicated grants program and the first round was massively oversubscribed.
“Because of that demand Councillors voted to top up round two of that program to benefit the some of the great events that add to the quality of life for Corangamite residents and attract visitors to boost our town’s economies.
“Applications for round two of the Events and Festivals Grants Program open this week so go to www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/Council/Grants-and-funding/Events-Festivals-Grant-Program or call 5593 7100 for advice on your submission.”
