Update 20 May 2024

Ready, Set, Go will operate the Timboon Children’s Centre under a new agreement with Corangamite Shire Council.

The early childhood services provider, which operates a centre in Mortlake, will take over from current operator Kardinia Early Learning.

Mayor Kate Makin said Council had been working to secure a provider through an Expressions of Interest process to minimise disruption to families and staff.

“We are thrilled that Ready, Set, Go has come on board,” Cr Makin said.

Kardinia Early Learning and Ready, Set, Go will now work towards the end-of-June handover with a Parent Information Session next Friday 24 May at 6:30 pm.

Ready, Set, Go owner Zeke Pottage said Timboon Children’s Centre would fit really nicely with the company’s mission of providing world quality care independent of postcode.

“As a family, we found the lack of care in the area really hard,” he said.

“That’s why we decided to move from a school background into early childhood care in Mortlake.

“We are hoping to continue this mission in Timboon and it’s an exciting opportunity for the two centres to work together from a resourcing perspective,” he said.

Update 15 May 2024

We have completed assessment of potential operators for the Timboon Children's Centre.

A further update will be provided in due course.

Update 3 May 2024

The search for a new operator at Timboon Children’s Centre is on track with a good response to an Expressions of Interest period, which closed 1 May.

Council will now work through submissions to secure a new operator for the 33-space facility in Hamilton Street.

We cannot give many details at this stage, other than to say we have received a number of responses and are optimistic a new provider will be secured by 28 June.

We understand the uncertainty has been really stressful for working parents and centre staff. Council is working hard to ensure continuity of care and minimal disruption to the service.

We will continue to keep the community updated via this page.

Information for families

It is most important that children and families have continuity of service and have a service to access.

We understand staff and families are experiencing great worry with such uncertainty. This shows through media reports and the phones calls and emails we have received.

Council has carried out Expression of Interest process to secure an alternative operator.

We have asked Kardinia management to reiterate to affected staff and families it is Council’s intention to secure an alternate provider from 28 June.

We have asked Kardinia to keep staff and families informed as much as possible during this time. Families and staff should continue to liaise with Kardinia until the end of June.

Council will do all it can to support a positive outcome given the critical importance of childcare to working families.

Timboon Childcare is a much-loved and valued service and Council will do all it can to ensure there is continuity of care.

We understand the service is vitally important for working families and the prosperity of the region.

Council is fully focussed on securing a new provider and will keep this web page updated rather that responding to individual messages.
