Video Call Ideas

Board games and dice games are a great way to beat the lockdown boredom blues with your family. With a few tiny tweaks some board games and dice games can be easily played over an online video call with friends and family you are separated from during lockdown.

See below a list and guide on how to play the following games over a video call:

Dice Games:

To play any of these dice games over video call all you will need is for all players to have their own sets of dice.

See below rules and video tutorials for each of the games.

Yahtzee scorecards can be found online.

Aces in the Pot

Ship, Captain, and Crew

Left, Centre, Right

Board Games:

As long as one person has access to the board game and the playing pieces they can move each person around the board. With a bit of imagination and ingenuity many family classics can be played from afar.

Games you can try over video call include:

  • Trivial Pursuit
    • The person with the board asks the questions and moves the playing pieces around the board on behalf of all other players.
    • Players keep note of what question categories they have achieved.
  • Monopoly
    • The player with the board is the banker and game coordinator.
    • Other players can make note of their properties and track their money on a piece of paper.
    • Arrange the board so that the entire board can be seen on the video.
  • Game of Life
    • The player with the board spins number wheel for the other players
    • Players that don’t have the board can make note of their money and other assets on a piece of paper.
    • Arrange the board so that the entire board can be seen.

Using these ideas there are many board games that can be adapted for a video call:

  • Scrabble
  • Squatter
  • Chess
  • Checkers
  • Mouse Trap
  • Logo Quiz

Trivia Games
There are also many word, acting, and describing games that can be played on line via a video chat.
For example:

  • Trivia Games
  • Articulate
  • Boggle
  • Charades
  • Scattergories – Scattegory lists can be found on the internet
  • Pictionary
  • Hangman
