| Camperdown’s Darren Frost, a Building Inspector with Corangamite Shire, has been awarded the 2009 Municipal Building Inspector of the Year award by the Victorian branch of the Australia Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS).
He was presented with the award at the AIBS Victorian Conference and dinner on Friday 16 October in Melbourne.
The Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) is recognised nationally and internationally as the peak professional body representing Building Surveyors in Australia.
Mr Frost found out on the night that a client had nominated him for providing a high standard of service. “It’s a great honour to be recognised by peers and the industry,” he said.
Mr Frost, who has clocked up over 20 years of service in a range of roles with Corangamite Shire’s Building Department, is currently studying a Bachelor of Building Surveying through Holmesglen TAFE.
He took up a full-time position as Council’s Building Inspector earlier this year. Mr Frost said his role as Municipal Building Inspector involved a lot of responsibility around building control and public safety. “I enjoy getting around to building sites and dealing with people – helping to solve some of the problems people encounter when building.”
Corangamite Shire’s Municipal Building Surveyor, Neil Povey, said the award was a great result for Council’s small Building Department. “Ensuring buildings comply with complex regulations can often be challenging, especially in small communities.”
“We are a team which oversaw more than $30 million dollars worth of building work last financial year.”
“Achieving good built outcomes for everybody is what it is all about, so it’s great to be recognised by the people we deal with and the broader industry,” he said.
