Covering an area of 4,600sq km between Port Campbell and Skipton, the Corangamite Shire encompasses a diverse range of environments. The Shire’s bioregions represent a diverse array of environmental landforms, and flora and fauna. The area's geological history has contributed to different areas of vegetation, with flat lava fields becoming basalt grasslands, and the formation of coastal cliffs and coastal vegetation spreading inland to form the Port Campbell National Park.

Corangamite Shire is committed to working with the community to protect and enhance our environment through facilitating projects, offering funding opportunities to community groups, and taking a lead role in environmental management. We are a member of the Cities for Climate Protection Program, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by Council operations.

Council is also committed to reducing waste to landfill, improving the recovery of recyclables and reducing litter across the Shire. To achieve this, Council offers kerbside waste, recycling and green waste collection in all of its towns. We also operate a state-of-the-art landfill at Naroghid and accept recyclables for free at all of our transfer stations across the Shire.
